Every one knows and loves our longtime favorite Mickey Mouse.

Let’s walk down the memory lane and discover the history of this world famous mouse.

A vision of a mouse had always been in the mind of Walt Disney

Which charming big ears, its face cheerful and happy

He finally drew this mouse on a piece of paper.

This cartoon, wearing striking red velvet pants, was named as Mortimer.

Walt’s wife felt that the name didn't fit the animal’s humble character,

So she suggested Mickey, which was easy to remember.

Thus in 1928, on 18th of November,

Born in Disney world was Mickey Mouse, a new cartoon character.

This mouse has beanpole limbs and long tail, and a spirit to prove his brilliance

In “Steamboat Willie”, in New York, he made his first appearance.

Afterwards in 1930, his Golden Age, Mickey played everything from fireman to a giant killer,

From cowboy to inventor, from detective to plumber

His cartoons began to feature friends like Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy

His faithful dog, Pluto and his longtime, sweetheart Minnie.

And then there came the biggest success of his Golden Age in 1938,

When “Brave Little Tailor” became his first movie to win an Academy Award

Then Walt Disney felt there should be a park where parents and children could go & have a good time,

So he built a “DisneyLand”, a home for Mickey in Florida in 1955.

Mickey became the park’s official host welcoming millions of visitors,

Leading parades through the magic kingdom, shaking hands and posing for pictures.

He found a second home at Walt Disney World in Florida in 1971

Getting renowned worldwide, he gained a spectacular position.

His third home was built in 1983 in Japan at Disney Land of Tokyo.

Mickey set up his fourth home in Paris in 1992.

Through thick and thin, through smiles and tears,

Mickey ruled our hearts and reached 82 years.

(I wrote this poem in back in 2004.)

I loved Mickey Mouse; our cartoons were great in comparison to the obscene things they pass off as cartoons today.
